Hawthorne Smith, Ph.D.

Clinical Co-Director


Dr. Smith received his B.S. from Georgetown University with a concentration in Foreign Service, and an advanced certificate in African Studies from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal. He subsequently received a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University, and a Doctoral Degree (with distinction) in psychology from Teachers College of Columbia University. Dr Smith has been with the Program since its inception. For the past 8 years, he has facilitated a multi-national, multi-ethnic, co-educational support group for French-seeking African torture survivors. Dr. Smith coordinates clinical intake conferences, case assignments, supervisions, and advanced trainings for care providers. Dr. Smith is fluent in French.
